About the Midlands Network of Popular Culture
We are an interdisciplinary group of students and researchers working within the sphere of popular culture. We aim to build an inclusive community throughout the Midlands whose areas of interest pertain, however broadly, to the study of popular culture, whether mainstream or alternative.
Our Network hosts a variety of monthly events, ranging from seminar-style workshops to our Annual Forum. We provide a much-needed space for those who feel that existing networks and research centres are too heavily predicated on periodisation or canonicity. The events we organise serve as a platform, not only for scholarly collaboration and debate but for the dynamic exchange of perspectives from individuals who are passionate about popular culture.
After the success of our online events in 2020/21, we are more committed than ever to providing our audience with a broad range of opportunities to engage with popular culture. This year, we aim to broaden our audience base to encourage greater interaction between the academic and public spheres.
